Thinking mode, which is calm, connected, able to listen, able to learn,
and able to take treats. Two is survival mode: overwhelmed, overstimulated,
afraid, frustrated, overexcited, barking, lunging,
pulling, spinning, shutting down. When your dog is in survival mode,
their thinking brain literally turns off. The emotional part of the brain,
the limbic system, and especially the amygdala, takes over and says, "Forget learning,
forget obedience, we just need to feel safe." So, if your dog is reacting,
pulling, screaming, or ignoring you, that's not disobedience. That's biology.
