Abuse of Power: LBJ's Disturbing Behavior

Lyndon B. Johnson was notorious for abusive and degrading behavior behind closed doors.

He exposed himself to aides, urinated during meetings, humiliated staff,

and used physical intimidation to assert dominance. Multiple witnesses recalled him conducting

conversations from the bathroom or deliberately shocking subordinates. LBJ also carried

on numerous affairs, often using his power to silence discomfort or refusal. Former aides later

confirmed that this behavior was widely known and widely tolerated. Political power

shielded him. Results excused conduct. It remains one of the clearest examples

of how authority can normalize abuse when no one is allowed to say no.
