Police are using AI chatbots to manipulate people into committing felonies. A country called
Panoptica released a bot named JEREMY onto the dark web to catch identity thieves.
It learned to talk exactly like a criminal and started making deals. But here is where
it gets messy. The AI kept offering a tourist increasing amounts of money until he finally
agreed to sell stolen data. He got arrested, but he claims he never would have
done it if the bot hadn't pushed him. It forces us to ask a scary question. If an algorithm
talks you into a crime, are you guilty, or were you just outsmarted by a
machine?
