I smear chocolate all over my body, and people call it outrageous. They think it's
sexual, but they're missing the entire point. It’s a symbol for how women are treated
like dirt. My art speaks out against violence and degradation. Another artist,
James Luna, gets it from his own community. They say he’s airing their dirty laundry
by showing the real, non-romanticized side of being Native American. But he says,
how can we solve anything unless we talk about it? Our art isn't meant to be pretty or
comfortable. It’s meant to make you feel something and start the conversations we’re all too afraid
to have.
