Everyone’s fine seeing Asian Americans as smart, successful, and polite — but
not dangerous. The “model minority” image comes with an unspoken rule: no street cred.
So we wondered what happens when you actually look at the data. Asian Americans
make up over six percent of the U.S. population, but barely over one percent of arrests.
Even for fraud, embezzlement, and so-called “smart crimes,” the numbers stay low.
There are only two categories where Asian Americans show up in higher numbers — and both
reveal something uncomfortable about stereotypes, exploitation, and survival in
this country. Follow @goldseamedia for the full breakdown in part 2.
