Bacteria don't get fat, they actually clone themselves into a massive army.
This is what scientists call bacterial growth, but it is really just one cell splitting into two over and
over again using raw energy. That energy comes from metabolism, where they use chemical
tools called enzymes to break down nutrients inside and outside their bodies. It is a total rollercoaster.
They start slow, then hit an exponential phase where they multiply like crazy, and finally crash
when the food runs out. It is basically a microscopic cycle of eat,
divide, and conquer happening right under your nose.
