Beyond the Degree: Proving Your Value

When I graduated, I genuinely believed life would change. Not in a dramatic way,

but in a finally things will start moving kind of way. I had done

what they told me to do. I had stayed in school, I had finished,

I had the papers, and then nothing actually happened. Days turned into

weeks. Weeks into months. I stayed at home longer than I had planned

to. Conversations with relatives slowly changed tone. At first, it was encouragement.

They told me, "Be patient. Something will come." Then it became suggestions.

"Why don't you try this?" "Why don't you talk to that person?"
