Can Fire Burn Underwater?

Ever wonder if fire can burn underwater? In most cases, the answer is no. Fire needs three

things to exist: fuel, heat, and oxygen. Underwater,

oxygen from the air is not available, so ordinary flames go out immediately. However,

some materials carry their own oxygen or react directly with water. These substances

can continue burning even when submerged. For example, metals like magnesium can burn underwater

because they react with water and release hydrogen gas, which then ignites. Certain chemicals

are designed to burn without external oxygen and can also burn underwater. In these cases,

the fire is not using oxygen from the water itself. Instead, it is fueled by
