That tiny green pod floating in your tea is currently causing a massive global economic
shift. We are talking about cardamom, the third most expensive spice in the world
after saffron and vanilla. For thousands of years, India was the undisputed
king of this spice. The Cardamom Hills in the Western Ghats were legendary. But then,
in 1914, a German coffee planter named Oscar pulled a move that changed everything.
He took cardamom seeds from Kerala all the way to Guatemala. Turns out, Guatemala was perfect
for it. Actually, it was better than perfect because while Indian farmers
could only harvest during a short window between September and November, Guatemala could
