How long after vitrectomy can you have cataract surgery? vitrectomy is removal of the vitrous gel
from the back of the eye, and is performed for a number of reasons when vetrectomy
surgery's being performed. This allows the transmission of oxygen from the blood vessels of
the retina to get to the back of the human lens after a vitrectomy. Once oxygen transmission
is increased, it's normal to develop cataract, commonly within 6 to 12 months. So
if cataract is so, if cataract surgery is required, then this is performed when the cataract
has become significant. If vitrectomy is performed and cataract surgery needs to be done as soon
as possible, then it can be done sooner, but normally there's a period of 3 months
