The Spanish colonization of the Philippines was literally driven by just three things: God,
Gold, and Glory. When Legazpi arrived in 1565, they overhauled
everything from religion to the alphabet. They introduced dramatic plays like
the Senakulo and the Moro-Moro to push Christianity. But for your literature test,
here is the cheat code everyone forgets. You have to know the difference between Korido and Awit.
Korido is eight syllables per line, like Ibong Adarna. Awit is twelve syllables and sung slowly,
like Florante at Laura. Nail these definitions and the grammar connectors,
and you will ace that exam.
