Craigslist Pickup After Dark

I told my wife I’d be quick. One of the dads on my kid’s baseball team bailed last

minute, and we needed an extra bat. I found one on Craigslist—cheap, barely used.

The seller said pickup only, after dark. I should’ve walked away,

but I didn’t. The address led me into a quiet neighborhood with spaced-out streetlights.

When I pulled up, the house was completely dark. No porch light. No lights inside.

Just a rundown two-story place with a detached garage. I sat in my car, engine running,

when I noticed a window at the back of the house. Moonlight revealed something standing

inside. At first I thought it was a mannequin. It stood stiff, mid-step.
