In weekly meetings this group share glucose checks, food, conversations,

and activities. In this way, self-care shifts from being something individual to an

accompanied and social process, where emotional support and guidance are also provided.

Furthermore, in the group we can observe changes in gender roles: men participate

in cooking, express emotions, and make decisions with the group, while women no longer

take care of all health-related responsibilities alone. Over the years, Los Dulces became

an important group in their community. They worked together to get better access to medications,

to choose the health staff at their clinic, and took part in different health events.
