Scientists are now creating a daily, ultra-high-resolution map of all Arctic sea ice.
They're combining data from two powerful satellites. One uses radar to get incredibly sharp,
detailed images, while the other uses microwaves for a broader, all-weather view.
A smart algorithm then merges these feeds, correcting for things like wind and atmospheric
water vapor to avoid errors. But it gets even cooler. They use an AI,
a convolutional neural network, to analyze the radar data and automatically classify what it
sees: open water, young ice, first-year ice, or thick, multi-year ice.
This gives us an unprecedented daily health check of the Arctic.
