Gloria Anzaldua's different use of genre, although a good idea in theory,
disrupts the flow of the novel. The constant changing of genre makes it difficult for readers
to fully grasp what she's trying to convey. She constantly switches genres from poetry,
autobiography, academic essay, mythology, and creative non-fiction. She demonstrates
throughout the essay, one example being on page 34-35, she writes, "Dead,
