Echoes of the Trenches

They told us it would be over by Christmas. But the mud, it becomes your

only world. Every whistle of a shell is a heartbeat skipped, a gamble with

destiny. In this hollowed earth, the only thing keeping us human

is the man beside us. Thomas looks at me, and I see

the same fire, the same terror. The earth trembles, but we stand. Not for glory,

but for each other. War is the thief of youth, yet it cannot
