Most people think being a legal guardian means taking control, but the real job is actually giving
power back. You are not there to be the boss of someone with dementia, depression,
or autism. You are there to be their translator. It is called supported decision-making.
You have to strip away the complex legal jargon and use plain language to find out what
they actually want, not what you think is best for them. You have to drop your ego and really
listen. The goal isn't to run their life, it is to build the bridge so they can
run it themselves.
