Ethics in the OR: A Tough Choice

I walked into the OR and my attending was operating on his own wife without telling anyone.

My hands were shaking as I scrubbed in. He looked at me through his mask and whispered keep

this between us. The nurses were whispering in the corner. His wife had no

idea he was her surgeon because she was already under. Hospital policy

says family can't treat family but here we were. I had to choose between my career

and doing what's right. After the surgery he thanked me for not saying anything.
