Your Christmas tree and a rose bush are actually fighting a massive evolutionary war.

Sure, both gymnosperms and angiosperms are seed plants with wood and roots,

but the similarities stop there. Gymnosperms are the rugged minimalists. They rock naked

seeds and cones, letting the wind handle their dating life. Their internal plumbing

is basic and they only fertilize once. Angiosperms are the innovators. They evolved flowers

and fruit to wrap up their seeds like a package. They have high-speed water transport

and use double fertilization. Basically, one relies on luck and wind, while the other

literally pays bees to do the work.
