Getting into an underground mine is like choosing a highway into the Earth's crust.
It's not just one big hole. For mines built into mountains, you can drive straight
in through a horizontal tunnel called an adit. For shallower deposits, they build an incline,
a sloping road perfect for conveyor belts to haul out minerals. Some mines even have spiral declines,
like a massive underground parking ramp, where huge trucks drive up and down. But for the really
deep stuff, they sink a vertical shaft—a giant, high-speed elevator for people and rock.
Each entry is a massive engineering feat.
