Falsify the Chart or Report Him

I crashed the code cart into my attending's ex-wife during a cardiac arrest. She was the patient.

He froze. I had to run the code while he stood there like a statue. Pushed epi.

Called for defib. Brought her back. Then she opened her eyes and whispered his name.

He left the room. Later I found out they're still legally married and she's pregnant.

Not his baby. He asked me to falsify her chart to show a different admission time.

I said no. He said my recommendation letter depends on it. Now she's stable

in the ICU and he's avoiding me. My co-resident says I should've just done it.

That everyone bends the rules. But I didn't go to med school to become a liar.
