Forged Consent Before Emergency Surgery

I watched my attending forge a patient's consent form right in front of me. My hands were shaking

as I stood there in the supply closet, pretending I didn't see him scribble that signature.

The surgery was scheduled in twenty minutes. The patient's family couldn't be reached.

He looked at me and said sometimes saving lives means bending rules. I'm three months

into my internship. If I report him, my career is over before it starts. If I stay quiet,

I'm complicit. The patient made it through surgery. Does the outcome justify what he

did, or does integrity matter more than results?
