You started as a single cell. That one cell divided over and over, using a process
called mitosis, to create the trillions of cells that are you today. Think of it like
a perfect copy-paste function. Your DNA packs up into chromosomes, they line up in
the middle of the cell, and then get pulled apart to create two identical new
cells. This is how your body grows and heals itself. But to make that
very first cell, something different happens. Meiosis is the special division for making
sex cells. It shuffles your parents' DNA and halves the chromosome count.
This ensures that when two cells meet, they create a completely new and unique genetic combination.
