Ancient Indian temples were literally built in the shape of stars. This was the signature
style of the Hoysala dynasty in South India. Their story began when their founder,
Sala, famously killed a tiger, which became their royal emblem.
But their true legacy is their mind-blowing architecture. Their greatest king, Vishnuvardhana,
built temples on star-shaped platforms so intricate you can't believe they were carved by hand.
Inside, you'll find polished pillars and stunning sculptures of celestial dancers called Madanikas.
They built over 100 of these temples, creating a style so unique and detailed that their era is
known as the Golden Age of Temple Architecture.
