The Wisdom of Rules

I used to think rules existed to control us. Then I saw a near-miss.

My neighbor's kid almost hit by a car. No stop signs at that intersection.

Within a week, the neighborhood petitioned. Two months later, stop signs appeared. It clicked.

Rules are solutions to problems. Food poisoning gave us health inspections. It's practical.

Buildings collapsed, so we wrote codes. Scams created contract laws.

Rules are lessons. That stop sign didn't create a force field. It created a

shared agreement. A common language for navigation. Like basketball, you need rules

or it's just chaos. The real purpose of rules isn't control.
