In the Quran, Jesus—known as Isa ibn Maryam, the son of Mary—is one of the greatest
prophets, but not divine. He’s born miraculously, without a father, by God’s command:
“Be, and it is.” He speaks as a baby, defends his mother’s honor,
and performs miracles—healing the blind, the leper, and even raising the dead—all by
God’s permission. But the Quran firmly denies the idea of his divinity: “They did not kill
him, nor crucify him, but it was made to appear so to them.”
Instead, God raised Jesus up to Himself, promising his return before the end of
time. In Islam, Jesus is a messenger who calls people to worship one God—Allah—the
