John Lydon: KISS Is NOTHING Without the Makeup

Love him or hate him, John Lydon never stays silent. The former Sex Pistols

singer and Public Image Ltd frontman has strong opinions about image, honesty,

and personality in rock music and those opinions have been impossible to ignore.

In an August 2023 interview with SPIN, John Lydon was talking about Hollywood and how he believes

it has “no personality.” During this conversation, the host asked him if he felt the same way about some rock

musicians. Lydon did not hesitate. He said, “A lot the heavy metal acts that

go out dressed up in makeup and tights . It’s an image to them, and that’s very

important.” For Lydon, image without substance is a big problem. He believes that
