Serving thirty-five years in the Army is impressive, but doing it as a Black chaplain
starting in the 1890s is absolutely legendary. George Washington Prioleau was born
in Charleston right before the Civil War and defied every odd to become a spiritual leader
for the famous Buffalo Soldiers. He didn't just preach; he lived the grind with the 9th Cavalry,
constantly moving from fort to fort and sacrificing precious time with his own family to
support the troops. He proved that the strongest weapon in war is sometimes just having someone
there to listen, leaving a legacy of resilience that still matters today.
