George Washington Prioleau gave up a normal life to become the spiritual backbone of the
Buffalo Soldiers. Born in 1856, he defied the odds to graduate from Wilberforce University
before joining the 9th Cavalry. For thirty-five years, he moved constantly,
stationed at places like Fort Robinson, sacrificing time with his own family to support troops
facing unimaginable hardships. He was the glue holding his regiment together.
Visiting his memorial puts it all in perspective; his legacy proves that true heroism is about resilience
and showing up for others when they need it most.
