Believe it or not, a law from England before April 7th, 1956 can still be used in a Malaysian
court today. It’s called English common law, and we only use it when our own
written laws have a gap. But our main source of law is the Federal Constitution,
the supreme law of the land that nothing can go against. Then you have unwritten laws,
like judicial precedents. This means lower courts are bound by the decisions of higher courts,
like the Federal Court. We even recognize local customs, or 'Adat',
as a source of law. So, the Malaysian legal system isn't just one book; it's a
unique mix of our constitution, judge-made decisions, and a slice of English legal history.
