Your smart doorbell exists entirely because of one woman in 1960s Queens. Marie Van Brittan
Brown was a nurse working late shifts who felt unsafe because police response times in her neighborhood
were terrible. Instead of waiting for help, she invented the first home security
system. It was way ahead of its time, featuring a sliding camera that looked
through peepholes, a two-way intercom to talk to visitors, and even a remote button to unlock
the door. She patented this back in 1966. Every time you check your cameras,
remember you are using tech pioneered by a nurse who just wanted peace of mind.
