Miraculous Survival from Six-Mile Fall

In 1972, flight attendant Vesna Vulović fell more than six miles from an exploding

airplane without a parachute. She was trapped inside a broken piece of the plane

that slammed into a snowy mountainside, and somehow, she lived. Rescuers found her

barely alive but conscious. Doctors said the only reason she survived was because

the section of the plane she was in landed at the perfect angle and the snow softened the impact.

She woke from a coma days later and eventually made a full recovery. It’s still the longest

surviving fall in history.
