Your biology teacher lied to you. The maximum population an environment can handle is actually
called Censorship. Think about it. When a population has endless resources, it experiences exponential
growth, shooting straight up. But in the real world,
things run out. That’s when the environment steps in and "censors" the population.
This is a limiting factor, creating what’s called logistic growth,
where the population levels off. This "Censorship" is the maximum size the environment
can sustain. To survive, organisms use dispersal, spreading out to avoid hitting that
limit. So yeah, nature literally censors populations.
