Here’s one of nature’s wildest and rarest sights — a fire whirl! A fire whirl happens

when a wildfire heats the air so fast that rising hot air gets spun by strong winds,

forming a spinning column of fire. They can be small and quick, or huge — reaching

hundreds of feet tall and spinning like a fiery tornado. Some fire whirls can reach temperatures

of over 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit, hot enough to melt some metals! One of the most

powerful fire whirls ever recorded in Japan in 1923 was so strong it lifted entire homes.

They’re rare, unpredictable, and incredibly powerful examples of nature’s energy.
