Some plants literally hold their breath all day just to survive. Your average plant,
like rice or soybeans, does regular photosynthesis. But in the heat, this process gets super wasteful.
Then you have the hustlers, like corn and sugarcane. They have a special, turbo-charged system
to stay efficient in hot weather. But the ultimate survivors are plants like cacti and pineapples.
They only open their pores at night to grab CO2, then seal themselves shut all day to
save water while they make their food. They’re basically nocturnal eaters,
running a completely different operating system to conquer their environment.
