Northern Pike: Freshwater Apex Predator

Pike are apex predators lurking in freshwater across the Northern Hemisphere. These ambush hunters

can live up to twenty five years and grow over four feet long. Their torpedo shaped bodies and razor

sharp teeth make them perfectly designed killing machines. Pike are not picky eaters.

They devour fish, frogs, ducklings, and even small mammals. They strike with

lightning speed from hiding spots in weeds and submerged structures. Their diet changes

with size. Young pike eat insects and tiny fish while adults target anything they can swallow.

Catching pike requires understanding their behavior. Use large lures that mimic injured

fish. Spoons, spinnerbaits, and soft plastics work best.
