Imagine a dinosaur with a skull so thick… it was like wearing a built-in helmet!”
That was the amazing family of dinosaurs called Pachycephalosauridae. These dinosaurs lived during the
Late Cretaceous and were known for their huge, dome-shaped skulls — some over 25 centimetres
thick. Their name means “thick-headed lizards,” and it’s easy to see why!
Most pachycephalosaurs were small to medium-sized plant-eaters, walking on two legs and using their
strong heads either to butt rivals, show off, or defend themselves. Some had spiky skulls,
some had smooth domes, and a few even had fancy bumps and knobs for display.
The most famous member is Pachycephalosaurus, but the family also includes cool dinosaurs like Stygimoloch
