Welcome to the world of pain—AKA, your nervous system’s way of stopping you from doing dumb
stuff. Think of your body like a giant Minecraft map filled with redstone wiring.
When you get hurt, your nerves fire off an electrical signal that travels up those wires,
all the way to the brain. Pain is not magic, it's electricity, just like redstone.
But here’s the interesting twist: your body has little “volume knobs” called voltage-gated sodium channels—Nav
channels for short—that decide how loud the pain signal gets. Turning the knob
up means “ouch,” turning it down means “meh.” When a pain neuron gets activated—maybe
you stepped on a Lego or burned your hand—it starts pumping ions in and out of the membrane.
