The World Bank and IMF have a secret deal for who gets to be in charge. The World Bank’s
president is always an American, and the IMF's managing director is always a European.
These "Bretton Woods Twins" were created after World War II to give loans to poorer countries
and reduce poverty. But the power isn't equal. It's the same with the Asian Development
Bank, where the president is always Japanese. Why? Because they're
the biggest shareholders. Basically, the countries that contribute the most money get the most
votes and get to pick the leaders of these powerful global financial giants.
