Haiti lost over 200,000 people in 2010 while Japan survived a stronger earthquake in 2011
with far fewer deaths. The difference? Money and preparation. Poor countries get hit hardest by disasters
because they lack infrastructure and warning systems. Rich countries lose more money but save
more lives. We're making everything worse by building cities in danger zones and heating
up the planet. But here's the thing, we can actually fix this. India evacuated
860,000 people before a cyclone in 2013 and saved thousands. Countries are switching to clean energy
and building smarter cities. The question isn't if we can survive disasters,
it's whether we'll actually prepare before the next one hits.
