The American Revolution kicked off in 1776 when colonists fought Britain for independence, creating a republic
based on liberty and equality, though only for white men. France watched closely.
In 1789, inspired by American ideals, the French people overthrew their
king, demanding rights for all citizens. But here's the thing, both revolutions
still allowed slavery. That's when Haiti changed everything. In 1791, enslaved Africans
in Haiti launched their own revolution, led by Toussaint Louverture. They didn't just
want freedom from Europe, they wanted to end slavery completely. By 1804,
Haiti became the first Black republic in history, proving that liberty meant nothing unless
