Rockstar’s story starts before the name even existed. In the early 1990s, a small Scottish

studio called DMA Design was gaining attention with a quirky puzzle series known as Lemmings.

But behind the scenes, the studio was working on something much more rebellious: a top-down crime

game called Grand Theft Auto. Released in 1997, GTA was chaotic, violent,

and unlike anything else on the market. Critics were shocked. Players loved it. And the success

caught the attention of a publisher called Take-Two Interactive, who acquired DMA and folded it into
