Russia's Fortress Mentality and Power Dynamics

Putin isn't some evil genius who appeared out of nowhere, he is the result

of a country that thinks it is a fortress under siege. Because Russia has no natural borders,

they are historically obsessed with security and terrified of the West. Yeltsin literally

hand-picked Putin to protect his own family, but the system was already set up for

a strongman. Now, the spies control the money, the courts are weaponized
