Saved by a Random Notification

I almost died because of my phone. And I didn’t realize it until later. I was walking home

at night, head down, scrolling like usual. I missed the sound behind me.

The footsteps. Then my phone buzzed. A random notification. I looked up. And that’s when

I saw how close he actually was. If my phone hadn’t gone off,

I wouldn’t have looked up. And I wouldn’t be here telling this story.

I still think about how random that was.
