People don’t live in Antarctica — they survive there. Temperatures can drop below –60°C,
so everyone stays inside heavily insulated research stations. They wear multiple thermal layers,
heated gloves, and special boots. Exposed skin can freeze in minutes. Food is shipped
only once or twice a year, and snow is melted to make drinking water.
Electricity comes from generators, wind, and solar power. There are no permanent
residents — only scientists and staff, about 1,000 in winter. Antarctica isn’t a home.
It’s the harshest place humans have ever survived. ❄️
