Did you know Sweden once marched an entire army across a frozen sea? In the brutal winter
of 1658, during the Dano-Swedish War, King Charles X Gustav led his army across
the frozen Baltic straits. Thousands of soldiers, horses, and cannons crossed
the ice over the Little Belt and the Great Belt — something no one thought was possible.
By marching across the frozen sea, Sweden bypassed Denmark’s navy, completely shocking
Europe. The result? Denmark was forced to sign the Treaty of Roskilde,
handing over huge territories to Sweden. One frozen winter turned the tide of history.
