Legal transcribers are paid to type exactly what you say, even your mistakes.

Our job isn't to make you sound smart. If you say, "Them trees, they got locusts,"

that's what goes on the official record. We have to keep all your "likes,"

"you knows," and "rights," but we cut out every single "um" and "uh." If you start a sentence

and change your mind, we type that too, like, "My son's favorite

was the-- the tiger." We even have to change "gonna" to "going to," but we get to keep "y'all"

and "ain't." So next time you're on the record, remember every word counts,

even the ones you wish you didn't say.
