The Bedtime Story

Lily found the book in the attic. It didn't have a title,

just a single black handprint. She took it to her room. She wanted to

know who the shadow friend in the story was. The book said the shadow friend

only appears when you stop looking for him. He's very shy. Suddenly,

the room felt colder. The candle flame turned a strange, sickly shade of

blue and died. Something moved under the bed. A soft, rhythmic scratching sound

began to vibrate through the wooden floor. She leaned over to look.

But the book had warned her. Never look under the bed at midnight.
