The Blind Man Who Saw Everything

For example, let's start with Tiresias, the blind prophet. Even though Tiresias

literally could not see, he's the only character who can f- who fully understands what's

happening from the beginning. He knows the truth about Oedipus, Oedipus's past,

who Oedipus really is, what he has done, and how the prophecy has come true.

The man who is physically blind sees everything clearly while everyone else with perfect eyesight is completely

in the dark. This contrast is the first big statement the play makes about being blind.

Lack of physical sight doesn't mean lack of understanding. And a common theme in the play is the

theme of seeing but blind.
