The Charge of the Light Brigade was a disastrous but courageous cavalry charge during the

Crimean War where British troops were accidentally sent into a Russian artillery position.

A vague order from British command led to absolute chaos. Lord Raglan wanted

his cavalry to prevent Russians from taking captured British guns. But his message

was unclear. When Captain Nolan delivered the order to Lord Lucan, he pointed in the

wrong direction. Instead of recovering nearby guns on safe ground, Lucan thought he
